World renowned casino gaming operator, Bally’s, has been approved by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario to provide both an online casino and sportsbook in the province. The license was approved on the 30th of June 2022, and will last exactly two years from the day of approval. Four distinct domain names are covered by the license; ballybet.ca, ballycasino.ca, ballysbet.ca and ballyscasino.ca.
A BallyBet mobile app is also expected to be available when the site goes live. The app should feature both the sports betting and casino gaming sections of the platform, for a one-stop gambling shop.
Bally’s has already disclosed that they are planning on launching the online casino section in Ontario before the sportsbook. There shouldn’t however be a large gap between the launch of the two, as the brand already has the software and experience for both.
Bally’s is the newest of a sea of operators looking to capitalize on the newly opened Ontario igaming market. Competitors in the region are already heavily stacked with big names in the industry like BetMGM, Unibet, BetRivers and DraftKings, already entering the Ontario gambling market. Bally’s is one of the more reputed and well-respected brands to launch in Ontario but will likely need to make a hard push to out market top operators mentioned above.
BallyBet Ontario Sportsbook
The BallyBet Sportsbook in Ontario is expected to feature all popular sports leagues in Canada including the ‘big four,’ NFL, NBA, NHL or MLB. A number of international and niche sports are also anticipated to be available for betting at the sportsbook.
Along with pre-match bets, bettors will likely also have the chance to make live bets on a variety of sports events which are already in progress. It is still unclear if any live streaming feature will be provided for bettors to watch sports as they wager.
A mobile app version of the sportsbook is expected to be on offer for mobile bettors for free download. As with all sportsbooks in Ontario, location settings will be needed to be switched on when using the app, to ensure you are betting from within provincial boundaries.
Bally’s has a massive footprint in both the land-based and digital gaming market in North America. The brand currently owns and operates 14 land-based casinos all across the United States and provides online casino gaming and sports betting in 18 US states.
Bally’s also has its fingers in the Gamesys Group, a leading online gaming operator. The brand bought the UK-based company in 2021 in acquiring the company for $2.7 Billion. On top of Gamesys, Bally’s owns:
- Monkey Knife Fight- one of the fastest-growing daily fantasy sports websites in North America
- SportCaller- a global B2B free-to-play game provider
- Telescope Inc.- a world leader in providing real-time fan engagement solutions for igaming platforms.
